Jesus offers another unexpected application. Will I find faith upon my return to earth?
These words express a great concern. He knows better than anyone how quickly we humans give up on believing in him, especially when his coming takes longer than we think. Jesus had recently emphasized this (see Luke 17:20–37). In that passage, Jesus also refers to himself as the Son of Man
(Luke 17:22, Luke 17:24, Luke 17:30). This striking designation indicates that he is truly human, the son of Adam, and of divine descent (see Daniel 7:13–14 and Mark 2:10). Therefore, think highly of Jesus! This Son of Man will one day return to the earth with power and great glory
(Matthew 24:30). That is certain, but will he then find faith on earth? That is the stirring question posed to each of us. Does our faith then manifest itself through persistent prayer (see also Hebrews 10:36, Hebrews 10:39)?
7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?
