People who reject God (Romans 2:8) act out of selfishness (they are self-seeking, eritheia
). They do not obey the truth
but suppress the truth by their own unrighteousness (see Romans 1:18). They do not come to obedience of faith in the Creator as they ought to (Romans 1:5). For this reason God releases them to suffer his just wrath, as they obey unrighteousness.
Their judgment is the passionate wrath of God, his wrath and fury
(see Romans 1:18).1
8 but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.
