Which sword was given to the rider of the red horse?

Revelation 6:4 (ESV)

4 And out came another horse, bright red. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.

The sword mentioned here is the short sword (yet very effective/deadly; hence “great”) that was used in John’s day for attacking an adversary in close hand‑to‑hand combat.
