This closing remark in this section takes up again the image of fire from Deuteronomy 4:15, applies it to God himself, and links it with his jealousy. This God is intolerant of idolatry. Therefore, to him alone may the covenant people show love and allegiance.
24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
