There is more than one way to preach from Isaiah 50:1–11. One’s text could be limited to Isaiah 50:4–11, the Servant song and the following conclusion, which would limit the use of Isaiah 50:1–3 to some preliminary contextual remarks. Given the length of the chapter and the importance of giving sufficient space in the sermon for unearthing the text’s rich truths and its Christological dimension, such a text choice is attractive, if not preferable. Alternatively, one’s text could be the whole chapter. That would call for the preacher to be especially careful in what all to include in the sermon.
