Commentary on John 14:22 (Summary)

John 14:22 (ESV)

22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?”

Jesus' teaching again raises a question from one of the disciples (see also John 13:36; John 14:5, John 14:8). Judas does not understand why Jesus will reveal himself to them but not to the world before he will soon return to the Father (see John 13:33; John 14:1–3). Isn't Jesus the light of the world (John 8:12)? Master, wouldn't it be great if many more people truly came to know you? Wouldn't that be wonderful? In that light, Judas' question is understandable. But did he listen carefully to what Jesus had just said?
