Job’s friends have accused him of all kinds of wickedness, but they failed to give specific examples of wickedness in his life. In contrast, Job describes the details of his life, details that prove his righteousness.

In a world filled with polygamy and fornication, Job has remained faithful to one wife. He understood that faithfulness and purity begin not with external behaviour, but with the desires of the heart. Therefore, he made a solemn agreement (a covenant) with his eyes not to look at any girl with lustful desire. In this, he showed understanding of the seventh command as it was taught by Jesus (Matthew 5:28).
