What is the good news?

Acts 14:7 (ESV)

7 and there they continued to preach the gospel.

The good news is the message about Jesus Christ, what he has done so that believers can be justified in the sight of God (see Acts 13:38–39). In this regard it incorporates truth about the active and passive obedience of Jesus. Jesus actively obeyed God’s law in the place of sinners, thereby securing the right of inheritance/life in God’s presence. He also passively submitted to God’s wrath against sin when he died on the cross, thereby dying the death that sinners deserve.
