Why do the synagogue leaders invite Paul and Barnabas to speak?
Acts 13:15 (ESV)
15After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, say it.”
Visitors would often be asked to speak during synagogue meetings, especially if they were known to have had rabbinical training.1 It is not clear if the synagogue leaders knew about Paul’s training, but he makes use of the opportunity which he is given.2
