The book of Acts recounts the spread of the early church and the manner in which Christ works to take the gospel from Jerusalem, to Samaria and finally to the ends of the world (Acts 1:8). Your sermon from Acts 12:1–25 will emphasize that Jesus Christ has more power than any earthly king. You will make it clear that opposition to the gospel is not ultimate, and that God’s plans will not be stopped by men. You can also comment on how the persecution of Peter prepares us for the persecution of Paul, as well as the parallel that is drawn between the two men.
1 About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church.
