Why does Peter talk about the man rather than using his name, Cornelius?
Acts 11:12 (ESV)
12And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house.
Peter wants to focus on the universal lesson taught by the conversion of Cornelius rather than Cornelius himself.1 He wants to focus attention on principle rather than personality.2 Even so, he admits that he did enter the house of an uncircumcised Gentile.
12 And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house.
