Since it was too late to set out for Caesarea, the guests are invited to stay the night with Peter.1 There is nothing in old covenant law that prevents Jews from speaking to Gentiles or receiving them in their homes. Showing hospitality was widely expected, especially to those who shared common interests and faith.2 By having the visitors dine with them and stay in the home of Simon the Tanner, the hosts would be able to determine what food was eaten, and the visitors would be expected to go along with their choices.
23 So he invited them in to be his guests. The next day he rose and went away with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
