This verse is almost identical to 1 Chronicles 8:28, except for the addition of the Levites.
This verse forms an inclusio with 1 Chronicles 9:3 by emphasising those who lived in Jerusalem.
Jerusalem encloses the entire section (1 Chronicles 9:3–34), thus stating the heart of all Israel
is found in Jerusalem, the place where the priests and Levites are stationed fully participating in all of the activities of temple worship, their legitimacy fully established by David the king and Samuel the seer.
The Chronicler seems to imply that God’s people have been reconstituted under their God and that everything in terms of his worship has been set up and made ready. Could he be asking, What else could you possibly want?
34 These were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, according to their generations, leaders. These lived in Jerusalem.
