These final thoughts in Jeremiah 4:2 remind us again of the larger picture. Judah’s repentance, and even the restoration of Israel as a united nation, are part of the Lord’s much bigger purpose to restore his creation blessings to all nations through Israel. Through a restored Israel the nations would bless themselves in him
as they sought the blessings that they see Israel experiences in her restored covenant relationship with the Lord. The nations would discover that these blessings are for anyone who submits to the sovereignty of the Lord as the true source of blessing.1
So much would follow if Judah would only return to the Lord in true repentance. Not only would it mean the restoration of the Lord’s covenant promises to Israel, but it would ultimately mean the restoration of his blessings to the nations.
2 and if you swear, ‘As the LORD lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness, then nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.”
