The Lord instructed Moses to have the offender taken outside the camp. This is the place of the defiled and unclean (Leviticus 13:46). There, the witnesses of the blasphemy lay their hands on the man. This is a visible sign that the guilt and responsibility of the sin rests with the one who has blasphemed. Thereafter the entire community stones the man to death. The corporate nature of this punishment highlights that blaspheming the name of the Lord will not be tolerated at all in Israel.
14 “Bring out of the camp the one who cursed, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
