Songs for 1 Samuel 24:1–22

1 Samuel 24:1–22 (ESV)

1 When Saul returned from following the Philistines, he was told, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.”

Psalm 57

The titles of both Psalm 57 and Psalm 142 appear to connect with 1 Samuel 24: For the director of music. To the tune of 'Do Not Destroy.' Of David. A miktam. When he had fled from Saul into the cave. It could also be a reference to David’s time in the cave at Adullam (1 Samuel 22:1–2).

Psalm 57 appears to illustrate David’s reverence for God and reliance on him (Psalm 57:1, Psalm 57:4). He trusts in God to deliver him from his trouble, to bring judgment in his time (Psalm 57:3). Given these statements, it would be good to sing Psalm 57 in response to your sermon.
