Psalm 54
According to the Psalm’s superscription, Psalm 54 contains David’s response to the betrayal from the people of Ziph. First he prays for deliverance (Psalm 54:1–2) as he complains that ruthless ungodly men are seeking his life (Psalm 54:3). He asks the Lord to bring judgment upon them (Psalm 54:5). Confident of the Lord’s help (Psalm 54:4), he promises a freewill offering to the Lord in gratitude for God’s faithfulness in delivering him from his enemies (Psalm 54:6–7). 1 Given the connection of the psalm with the events of 1 Samuel 23, this would be a good song to sing in response to your sermon. It shows us how David reflected on what happened to him. It also helps us to be confident that the Lord will look after us.
1 Now they told David, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors.”
