What does it mean to be a son of God?

Galatians 3:26 (ESV)

26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.

To be a son is to be someone that has reached the age of maturity where he has the right to the father’s inheritance.1 To be a son of God would then mean that you share in the inheritance that God has promised to those who belong to him.
