Where was the city of Amalek?

1 Samuel 15:5 (ESV)

5 And Saul came to the city of Amalek and lay in wait in the valley.

The Amalekites were a semi-nomadic tribal group.1 As a result, they did not stay in permanent and fortified cities. The city in view is thus likely to be one of their many encampments.2
