Why does Samuel draw attention to Saul?

1 Samuel 12:13 (ESV)

13 And now behold the king whom you have chosen, for whom you have asked; behold, the LORD has set a king over you.

Samuel acknowledges that Israel now has a king and that leadership has subsequently been transferred from himself to Saul.1
