The word “conceive” may literally be translated as, “sows a seed.” This phrase connects Leviticus 12:1–8 with the preceding chapter. In Leviticus 11:1–47, seeds were seen to produce life (Leviticus 11:37–38). It is natural then for the Lord to use the language of a seed to speak about childbirth as the beginning of human life.
