Commentary on Genesis 1:22 (Summary)

Genesis 1:22 (ESV)

22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

The Lord blesses the animals. His blessing ensures that the animals can reproduce and thus show God’s greatness on the earth. Here, too, God’s blessing is decisive (see also Psalm 127:1–5).
